Special Projects

We are frequently asked about "special projects" that require funding. These specific needs help us share the gospel, operate the Shelters, enroll children in school, support families, and run programs designed to improve and develop communities in Uganda.

We pray that you would consider being a part of the work God is doing through Save Sunshine Shelter Kids by engaging in these opportunities..

If you have questions about any of the projects, please contact us.

STREET KIDS EMERGENCY MEDICAL FUND - $6,500

This fund helped cover the medical emergencies of three street kids who had been severely injured in car accidents while living on the streets of Kampala. Each of these children suffered significant trauma, leading to long-term disabilities that required immediate and intensive care.Due to the severity of their injuries, they had to be hospitalized for over a month to receive the necessary treatment and recovery support. The fund ensured that they received the medical attention they desperately needed, including surgeries, rehabilitation, and ongoing care.Without this support, these children would have faced further suffering, with limited access to healthcare in their vulnerable situations. This intervention not only saved their lives but also gave them a chance to heal and rebuild their futures. It is through your contributions that we can continue to provide such life-changing support to street children in urgent need.

BEDDINGS (MATTRESSES, BEDSHEETS, BLANKETS, TOWELS, DECKER BEDS) – $1500

Proper rest is essential for growing children, especially those healing from trauma and hardship.Clean, warm, and comfortable beddings promote not only physical well-being but also emotional security. The need for new decker beds is also urgent, as overcrowding continues to rise in the shelters. Many children in our shelters currently sleep on and uncomfortable beddings ;- worn-out, torn, that no longer provide the rest and comfort they need. Over time, mattresses have flattened, bedsheets and blankets are frayed, and towels have lost their absorbency. This support will allow every child to have a clean, safe, and dignified place to rest. Upgrading our bedding will restore comfort and show these children they are valued and cared for.

MOBILE HEALTH CLINICS - $12,000

Our mobile health clinics bring essential healthcare services to underserved communities, ensuring that those in remote or difficult-to-reach areas have access to basic medical care. Many of these communities lack nearby hospitals or clinics, and individuals often go without medical attention due to distance, cost, or lack of transportation. Through this initiative, we offer free consultations, treatments, and health screenings for a range of illnesses. Our mobile clinics also focus on preventive care, providing education on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention, helping to reduce the spread of preventable conditions.

A SAFE AND SPACIOUS DINING SHELTER FOR ALL CHILDREN- $1,450

We are in urgent need of constructing a larger, shared outdoor shelter for both the girls’ and boys’ homes, a multipurpose space to serve as a dining area, meeting point, and space for counseling and discipleship. Currently, the existing dining area and library are too small to accommodate all the children at once. This is a project we must undertake as an organization, since the houses we rent from landlords do not include adequate space for group dining. To meet this need, we plan to put up a temporary yet sturdy structure ourselves. This will involve purchasing iron sheets, timber, and cementing the floor to create a safer, more accommodating dining area.

Fund This Project

DESKS FOR DINING, LEARNING, AND DISCIPLESHIP AREA – $1,399

To accommodate all the children comfortably in our new dining shelter, we urgently need to provide desks or seats for them to sit on during meals and activities. With the new space, we’ll be able to bring the children together for meals, meetings, and counseling, but we still need the necessary furniture to ensure everyone has a seat. The desks will not only provide a proper place for the children to sit while eating, but also support their learning and personal development. This is crucial for creating a safe and structured environment where the children can gather, eat, and engage in group activities in a more organized way.

SEW WITH LIGHT PROGRAM - $3,333

We are in urgent need of 30 sewing machines to support our women and teen mothers' empowerment programs. These machines will equip them with practical tailoring skills, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity. Many of the young mothers in our care have no income and rely on these skills to become self-reliant. Through sewing, they learn a trade that can generate income, provide for their children, and restore hope. Currently, the demand for training is high, but we lack enough machines to serve everyone. With more sewing machines, we can train more women at once and reduce waiting periods. This is more than a skill,it’s a path to independence and healing.

SHE REARS - $2,000

This project supports women we resettled in their home villages after rescuing them from harmful lifestyles like prostitution and drug abuse. By providing goats for rearing, we empower them to earn income and regain independence. We had successfully distributed 71 goats, transforming many lives. However, due to lack of our own land at the start of the project, we lost the animals to external attacks many were poisoned, halting the project’s progress. Despite the setback, the impact was clear: women became providers and role models in their communities. We now aim to restart “She Rears” stronger and safer, with renewed support. This project gives women a second chance to build, to thrive, and to sustain their families.

DEMONSTRATION GARDEN SETUP – $2,500

As our agriculture training program continues to grow, we plan to set up a garden that can bring the community together to learn new methods and grow together in best agricultural practices. This garden will serve as a hands-on learning space for women, youth, and teen mothers.Participants will be trained in modern farming techniques to boost food security and income. It will also support nutrition education, teaching families how to grow and prepare healthy food. The garden will showcase crops suited for local conditions, increasing the chance of success. By empowering people with practical skills, we’re investing in long-term sustainability. With your support, this garden can become a hub of hope, learning, and transformation. All these "farm with a purpose" programs were yielding great results for the community. However, due to ongoing challenges, especially financial ones, we had to pause. Still, the need remains urgent, especially for the many women we are rescuing from harmful lifestyles. They deserve a fresh start, and this garden could be that new beginning.

FAR PROJECT TEMPORARY PROGRAM CENTER- $4,700

This program supports the children of women in our care by focusing on their education, emotional growth, and well-being. As their mothers rebuild their lives, we ensure these children are not left behind, but are nurtured, taught, and given the chance to thrive. It’s a space where learning begins, stories are shared, and hope is restored for the next generation. We often struggle with where to run our programs, as we rely on rented fields or outdoor spaces. This exposes children and women to harsh weather, distractions, and even occasional safety risks. Without a permanent center, consistency and security are hard to maintain. We dream of building a small, safe center that includes a dining area, library, and a room for the women. While constructing a cemented building is too costly at the moment, a timber structure offers an affordable and immediate solution. Starting with a timber. built center will give us a safe, stable space to continue transforming lives without interruption.

FUND OUR TALENT GROWTH PROGRAM YEARLY - $6,000

Our music program is a creative outlet that gives children a voice, builds confidence, and promotes healing. Many of the children we support have faced trauma, and music helps them express emotions safely. Through instruments, songwriting, and performance, they discover their gifts and grow in self-worth. The program nurtures discipline, teamwork, and joy skills they carry into every part of life. Currently, we lack enough instruments and trained facilitators to grow the program sustainably. Your support will help us offer regular sessions, purchase equipment, and train young talent. With just a little help, we can turn passion into purpose and talent into opportunity. Music is more than sound,it’s hope, healing, and a future for our childre

FISTULA WOMEN SURGERY- $4,000

We are grateful to share that surgeries for 8 women suffering from fistula were successfully funded and completed. These women had endured pain, shame, and isolation due to their condition, often caused by prolonged childbirth, rape and forced marriages. Early and Forced Marriages often result in child pregnancies, and girls whose bodies are not yet fully developed are at high risk of obstructed labor one of the leading causes of obstetric fistula. Rape, especially violent or repeated sexual assault, can also cause traumatic fistula, which is a result of severe damage to the birth canal, rectum, or urinary tract. In both situations, lack of timely and adequate medical attention increases the risk of developing a fistula. Thanks to the generous support received, they underwent safe and life restoring procedures. All eight are now healing well and showing remarkable physical and emotional improvement. They are doing well and were all provided with start-up packages and food supplies for six months. This support has helped them recover in dignity as they prepare to shift to better environments. They are now raising their children in safer, healthier, and more supportive surroundings. We continue to walk alongside them as they rebuild their lives with confidence and purpose.

BUILDING AND RESTORING HOMES - $3,500 each ($17,500 goal / 5 Homes)

Building and Restoring Homes focuses on identifying and supporting the most vulnerable families in our community especially women and children living in unsafe conditions such as cardboard, mud, or grass thatched houses. These shelters pose serious health risks and leave children exposed to insecurity. When such challenges arise, we step in to uplift and empower families by constructing new homes or renovating existing ones that are in poor condition. While building safe, decent housing is often costly, we strive to create structures that can accommodate entire families most of whom have several children and offer them stability, dignity, and protection.

Most of these street children come from vulnerable backgrounds and would otherwise not have access to such opportunities. Vocational training offers them a pathway to self reliance and economic empowerment. The skills they acquire can help them start or secure jobs in their fields. This program is more than just education, it’s a foundation for a stable and independent future. We are committed to supporting these students through their entire two year journey. Your support helps us keep them enrolled, trained, and ready to thrive beyond the classroom.

BEAUTY WITH THEIR HANDS – $1200

We are in urgent need of salon materials to support our women and teen mothers’ empowerment programs. This initiative is designed to equip them with hands-on hairdressing and beauty skills that can help them become self-reliant and provide for their families. Many of these young women have no source of income and are eager to learn a skill that restores both hope and dignity. The materials needed include hair dryers, salon chairs, mirrors, washing basins, hair straighteners, clippers, towels, hair products, and training kits. With proper equipment, we can offer full training sessions and help these women build a career in beauty.
